As the mother of a child with autism, I know the joy and the sadness, the triumph and the defeat, the energy and the exhaustion, and the multitude of other emotions that come with living this storyline. It’s long been a desire of mine to do something for the moms out there, to let them know they’re not alone and to encourage them to continue to shine bright!
I’ve teamed up with celebrity designer and Project Runway All-Star, Johnathan Kayne, to create N+J=Z. Our first project is the Foster dress. Our goal was to create something that is fashion-forward, beautiful and ageless, casual and elegant, all while fostering a spirit of encouragement, specifically for mothers and supporters of autistic children (Also, my little Zealand’s favorite song is “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People so it seemed like a fitting name!)
When you wear the dress our hope is for you to feel proud. Proud of yourself and the way you look, and proud of your story and what you’re choosing to support. We’ve partnered with Autism Tennessee on this project where we’ll be donating proceeds from the dress to continue to support their mission.
Each dress is produced using state-of-the-art go-to tech neoprene fabric for a comfortable, form-fitting feel and the “foster” dress does not stop there. The versatile dress is the missing ‘piece’ to every woman’s wardrobe and you get to choose the neckline that best suits the occasion and your body type. It is perfect for occasions like dressing up for a night out or dressing down for a weekend day trip. The garment has pockets, a hidden invisible zipper on the neckline, undercover collar magnets for that special pulled-back look, and special hem that holds the full skirt shape. In addition to the dress, N+J=Z will introduce a small distinctive puzzle piece accessory, representing the Autism Awareness movement. The belt (pictured) will be sold separately and is coming soon.
